We're super excited about that. And I have on the phone, I have uh Kelly Meixler and Donna Waschek, and we are going to find out about kind of where everybody's at on this final citizens ordinance push. Um it's been a long tow because the numbers are so huge that everybody's been trying to reach in two and a half weeks. But we're going to kind of talk about how it's going, and this is the last few days, folks, if you haven't signed to get your chance to sign. And Kelly, why don't you start us off? Kelly Mike, sir.

Well, I think it's been amazing, amazing how many people have thought us out to get signatures. We have a very shortened calendar. Um, when you're normally collecting for a citizens initiative, you have 120 days. And the county insists that we get the 6,076 signatures, rather, which is the 15% rather than what a statutory measure requires at 4,041, I think. So we are probably going to fall short of our goals, but the amount of people who have been supportive, who have made an effort to get this signed, it inspires me, it makes me hopeful for our county. And I'm very, I'm very grateful to everyone who's been either circulating or who has made the intention to go out and get get their signature and represent to our board of supervisors that we want better, more responsible development in Navajo County.

And you know, you mentioned about people that have come forward just one hour ago, I think it's his second post, Eli Crane posted again reminder for all of Navajo County voters if you're looking for a way to make your voices heard against these massive wind and solar farms. Check this out. And it's about the restrict wind and solar farms, the citizens get to vote. So that's what this is all about. And it was super cool that Eli Crane did this, isn't it?

Super cool. I'm so grateful for him to put that out there. And and Barbie Ingle and some of those politicians who know that this isn't responsible development, that these have been rushed through and the people have not been heard. We are um again, I've been inspired. So our next goal is we're trying to get a data center ordinance to be pushed through planning and zoning. We learned this morning that the seventh meeting of planning and zoning in 2026 has been canceled. We were hoping that the Board of Supervisors would hold their meeting and we would beg them and ask them, please make planning and zoning meet and put our data center ordinance on there because it is it is clear, and it's been clear for a year that after these um Inflation Reduction Act tax credits that these solar and wind companies are trying to tax farm us for, you know, that's that's why we are getting all these projects pushed on us. Is there is money in the construction, there is taxpayer money in the construction of wind and solar, but it expires July 4th. So they have been rushing and rushing to get these approved, and that's really what we were trying to do with our citizens' initiative is say, hold up, board of supervisors, we see what you're doing. You have weakened our ordinances, you are pushing forward these projects, and we don't we don't like how you how you're doing them so irresponsibly. I know I've heard from some firefighters, I've heard from some realtors, and we have real concerns about what they did in our ordinance that allows these projects not to have strong decommissioning bonds, not to have good fire suppression plans. It's just it's very um it's very clear that this last push for the wind and solar is almost over. And now um just just a couple days ago, Navajo County made an announcement that they are moving towards nuclear for TOIA, which is really interesting. I mean, it was April and May of last year, 2025, that APS made their announcement at the Arizona Corporation Commission that their intention for Troya was short term they may go to natural gas, but long term they were looking for nuclear there. So it's interesting now that the IRA tax credits are ending, that Supervisor Whiting, who's responsible for recruiting these wind and solar projects, is now saying that he supports nuclear because his constituents want nuclear. I I'm glad he hears us finally.

Well, and I I reached out to ask him to come on and do radio. I have not heard back yet, but I am hopeful that he will come on and tell us what this means for the future. Um I worry that there might be some s you know still subsidies and money rolling around out there and some other things that are out there, but we, you know, sometimes we don't know all of that. Um I and also what uh this is the other thing everyone needs to understand. Uh the the ordinances and the things you're talking about in this citizens uh uh thing, they're very minimal. They're what other counties did. And and like Coach County and other counties have protections, all right, and they're not getting sued. Uh but our county, they they it came through with no protections for us, for the little people. They just came through with protections and what the big foreign companies want. I I keep hearing life, liberty, liberty, and the pursuit of foreign companies, you know?

It's like Right. And I wish that, you know, if we had just even known. But the way that our county organized their their ordinance was that the the companies could come to them and develop privately with the Board of Supervisors in a development agreement, and then they bring the development agreement to the Board of Supervisors for official approval, and never is there any chance for the public to know what's coming. And that is just that kind of secrecy, you just know that it's not all in the up and up. Right, no transparency. No transparency. And I agree with you, Janine. We don't know what they have up their sleeves. I think that pivot to nuclear is very interesting, and I'm you know, and I'm all for I am 100% for a mini nuclear.

Oh my gosh, they are they've shown to be incredible. And that's and here's the thing about a mini nuclear, everybody, that you have to understand. They're being used. They there's one up in Wyoming doing great, they're being used all over the place. But here's the thing about them. They sit on five acres of land, okay? They're not go and they have massive protections in place, okay? And the thing is, th they're so they're so clean, and so I mean, just everything about them is great. But then the big thing, they load those towers. So there's no room for the s the the thousands of wind turbines that'll ruin our property values and ruin our lands forever and our water table and all the solar fields, right? There's no room on the towers for them, so those all are negated. And that's what I kept saying is that we just need a bridge to get us to the mini nuclear. And that and why we couldn't reopen Choya with the clean scrubbers and everything the way it is, then transition to a mini nuclear uh in the eight years or whatever. But the thing is is they want to throw up all these giant turbines and not tell us anything. And the lack of transparency, I love on their website they did put that whole thing on their website like question and answer, but it's the same stuff they've always been saying.

Right. There's no I you know, I asked Supervisor Chairman Seymour, I asked him, why don't you put the development agreements on there so we can read them, or the decommissioning bonds, or the fire suppression plans, or what the who's liable if a wild wildfire is started. I asked him because he called me to tell me about that website, and you know, it's great they want to be transparent, but my other suggestion to him was, you know, there's this, there's a backlog of public records requests where my most recent request, which was to receive um the uh economic development director's calendar, his official county business calendar, which should be very easy to produce. Um I hit I've been told I won't receive it until January of 2028.

Yes, I'm here, and I was gonna make a comment. Good morning. Uh one thing that um I don't remember if it was at a border supervisor meeting or when Brian Leighton did his little uh presentation song and dance out at the Art Alliance building, which was just such to me was so embarrassing for him and insulting to the to the people who showed up. Uh, but he said, you know, what we have going for us are empty transmission lines, and that's why we want to fill them, and that is why these people are coming. That's the only reason we are coming, is uh people are coming here is because the transmission lines are empty. Well, we fought with the Arizona Corporation Commission um at meetings for the like last October they came up to Honda uh and had a public meeting, a public hearing. They had then a Zoom meeting in um Flagstaff in December, trying to determine whether or not they were gonna reopen our our or convert, excuse me, uh the Springerville generating station to natural gas. And they came and they did a really nice presentation in February, uh TEP, who owns two, I think two of the burners in Springerville Generating Station, and said, you know, if we can just convert to natural gas, which is only going to cost 170 million dollars compared to the 475 million it would take to scrub it from coal, uh to you know, to just um to make the coal that they're burning clean. Um but we he said we we don't need any more electricity now that this conversion has happened. So why can't the uh SRP APS APS sorry as Choya put it? Why can't they just have a conversion natural gas as an inter rim solution? Because the natural gas pipe goes right by them, right there on I-40, the big old main huge unisource uh uh pipeline is right there next to them. So it doesn't make sense why that cannot be converted. But again, I think they have agreements and they a year ago changed that was uh Kelly, you were saying earlier, planning and zoning had these meetings with them and then brought it to the Board of Supervisors. You said Board of Supervisors had private meetings, but no, it was planning and zoning that is now allowed to have these um no public hearings when the development uh comes in. Is that correct, Kelly? That the uh resolution 17 2025 that they approved very quickly was written through last June.

Yeah, so you know to me it's it's uh what is the transparency one more time? And wouldn't it be lovely? I mean, a year ago uh the Troy announces mini nuclears and and nuclear and you know, somebody told me the other day this is what they use on the aircraft carriers and submarines. Okay, how clean is that? If they're down under beneath the ocean that, you know, how whatever depth and on these massive. I have a friend that worked down, he worked, he was um went away after high school and was on a nuclear um aircraft carrier for for the you know. No, they're wonderful. Yeah, they're so clean. And everybody's like, oh, is it fission or fusion? Is it fission or fusion? Because there's a lot of waste, and so you know, it's educating again the public.

And also the other thing is the sad thing is people are thinking these are clean. They're anything but clean. 8,500 giant wind turbines and the firefighters, like down in the valley, some retired uh chiefs and some people that can talk to me, but not on radio. Up here, they can't talk. They work for the county, right? And the thing but all of them tell me they're terrified because we are in a red flag warning right now. We are in extreme fire danger. That's why the insurance companies are pulling out of here. That's why we're paying double what we should be paying, right? Uh that we're all paying for. And with adding, they said this basically, if one wind turbine gets struck by lightning, it falls down like they have in Texas and it starts a wildfire. Okay, who's responsible for that? And we don't, and they're we're told we don't have the fire suppression systems, especially for lithium batteries. Okay, now they're self-contained, they say, oh, you let it burn, let it burn itself out. Okay, what about the air? What about if you hit it with water, I'm told it destroys your, you know, your water table. And the the the chemicals that are in the solar fields and in the lithium batteries, those are very concerning. And then when the wind turbines go down, so this is going to give another excuse to all those insurance companies to run our rates so high or pull out of town that we will not, people with mortgages, they will not have, they'll have to self-insure, and that is incredibly expensive. And then we just had the um tower guys that that run these big towers. Matt Matt, the engineer that said, please prove me wrong about the the interference problems. And they've had interference problems in California and these different things in this research that comes out. So for us, these are the biggest turbines. They're kind of saying it'll be experimental, okay, 8,500 of them all over our heads, running our ranchers off, you know, with the solar fields and the holding yards. But no one's talking to us about, yes, we're gonna have the proper fire suppression. Yes, there's gonna be someone on these contracts for longer than just two minutes. We've been told the foreign companies will be here for two years, and then they'll just probably stand there, you know. I mean, the whole thing is really hinky that we're not allowed to know anything, people, you know? Guys?

Yeah, absolutely. I'm so in agreement with you. We um one of the things that I I did want to point out that I just think is, you know, we are citizens. There is no NGO, there's nobody who has been pushing Donna or Belinda or any of our teammates who've been out there collecting signatures. We're people who just want to know the truth. We want to we wanna we care about our county. And I wanna, I'm so proud of everybody. I wanna emphasize that we had about fourteen percent of the amount of time to get this petition, get enough signatures, about fourteen percent of the amount of time that we should have had because we started it so late. We did not know what we were doing, but we collected over 42% of the signatures that we needed.

It would be amazing. If you grabbed your brother, you grabbed your uncle, you called your mom, you said, Hey, we've got to go sign that, and we got to over the hump. It it would be, it would, I mean, it'd be a miracle, yes. Citizens, this is citizens who are fighting for you, for our community, like they're telling you with not knowing about our insurance and not knowing about the fire suppression risk. We're just a bunch of citizens who care about our future in the White Mountains.

Yeah. It's our voice. And I don't know if how many of you guys saw the White Mountain um uh independent too, that informal little poll they asked. Okay. It's appears to be an 80 percent issue, folks. 80 percent said we should have a say. We should at least have a voice in this. And that's why Eli Crane has shared this a couple of times. Uh I mean, we should be able to know what's happening. That's the sad part. This has been all a huge secret, very quiet. Um, you don't understand what's good for you. Ooh, so creepy, you know?

And all we're asking for, again, guys, these are minimal protections. Minimal. We're asking for a half mile setback. The board of supervisors were in here in this radio station saying, we're gonna get a mile, we're gonna get a one mile setback for you. And then they got gave us nothing. They moved it into 700 and some feet to your doorstep. So the wind turbine, if it falls over.

It's like the minimal, but it's like security. Like we know we don't just have to trust the board of supervisors got a good decommissioning. We're requiring a decommissioning bond that has triggers. So because if you drive across the country like I drive across the country, you see turbines that are past their warranty and now they're just sitting there broken and nobody and they're not being repaired. They just get abandoned. And it's the landowner who signed that agreement. It's the landowner who's going to be responsible for taking them out. Or if they're on Arizona State Trust Land, they're just gonna sit there and rot because there's nobody, there's no money, there's no trigger to get the decommissioning bond, or the decommissioning bond is so weak, it goes away when the when the shell company they created for the project goes away.

So sad. The whole thing is so it's amazing. It's a massive scam. And we're gonna we're gonna take a short break here and come back and continue this conversation because I'm running out of time for this segment. But we we're gonna come back and continue this conversation with the girls and find out where you guys can find to s uh find to sign. We are in the last days of these signatures. It would be just so amazing if people would flood in and sign this uh minimal. And all this does, guys, is get it on the ballot in November. That's all it does, is put it on the ballot in November. It's amazing for the people to stand up and use their voice and say, we are we we deserve to be heard.

Yes, even if this petition only has one signature, we take it, we will do it, we will use it. So do not give up, don't think that that one signature doesn't count because every signature counts. They've been very, very generous hosting these a treasure chest, um Woodland Road uh consignment store, Steve Bachmeyer, and then the Pine Top Coffee House in Pine Top, Mike Moffenbeyer and his wife Linda have been lovely.

They're actually they are also they're a notary so you can get your uh uh affidavit uh signed there if you have a petition and then finally but not last but not least realty executives uh over there in uh pine top on White Mountain Boulevard um really generous to have the uh office open till five o'clock every day so these are the locations folks call the number 928-2423 again 928-242-3527 the big push till noon on Thursday see and that's thank you so much all of you yeah I you know what that just gave me a lump in my throat thinking about all the businesses and people that have come forward and guys if you think uh that this isn't just when you hear about certain things like uh the Senate or different people voting back in Washington you hear about 80-20 issues I just pulled up the White Mountain independent newspaper they have a survey on there it says a group of Navajo County residents is collecting signatures to put two issues on the ballot that would require large scale renewable projects to be approved by voters. Do you think residents should be able to vote on these projects? Which I think it's hilarious that people think they don't shouldn't have to vote on them, right? But here's what it is 81 point three percent of you guys say yes, we should be allowed to vote on these giant projects, right? And only 8.5% say no, which is is interesting. But then the other interesting part 10.2 percent have signed the petition.

Okay if there's only 10 point two percent that have signed the petition but 81.3 feel like we should have a say guys sign these petitions right amen amen and you know I was I I was saying something la this last weekend when I was collecting signatures uh at various events around the mountain uh one gentleman is a was a pilot and he he came up to me and he knew what we were doing he'd heard uh in the room where we were and he said you know I'm a pilot I fly into Shova all the time these turbines all over when I fly everywhere he said they're never turning you know and and I said it's intermittent in intermittent power they operate on average 25% of the time wind and solar are not cap that you cannot count on that like uh small nuclear or or um natural gas which is uh definitely uh the new way and of course Jason Wedding's story but another thing these things I did the math 710 feet tall one eighth of a mile is six hundred and sixty feet so these are more than an eighth of a mile tall folks and I got to thinking about this I'm sitting in the forest this weekend at an event looking up at the trees swaying in the beautiful breeze and um and I'm thinking I said to my husband how tall are these trees and he's like oh you know maybe 40 or 50 feet and I just gasped are you kidding me? These things are 10 times the size of these massive pine trees that we're enveloped in here in the Ponderosa pine trees unbelievable to think about that. 7 and 10 feet is more than an eighth of a mile.

Unbelievable they've never done this before they're gonna put all these turbines up at this height and then this has never been done before and there's no study on the accumulative effect of having a hundred and something turbines of that height on our soil. What would the effect be? What is the ground what is the ground what's going to happen to the ground I mean the coconut aquifer yeah yes yes I mean we have all three types of volcanic soils here like the the tubular does is there an impact of having a hundred and ten wind turbines circulating around at 700 plus feet tall I mean we should be able to know that they should tell us and you're saying 110 turbines but when you do the math with the 174.

No what but when you do the math of the potential ones that have shown interest on the two counties Navajo and Apache the math comes as Steve and I were doing this one day on the ones that have shown interest and put in interest okay it could be up to 8,500 turbines across the two counties. So that's a lot of crazy turbines and a lot of interference like when we're talking to the engineer he goes why aren't they doing big studies? He said prove me wrong prove me wrong this isn't going to interfere with and of course he's a big engineer up on Green's Peak and so he was saying prove me wrong. There's all these people and these smart people and our firefighters that are worried about the fire danger and that insurance companies will run away and no one's answering our questions. Are we just tell us tell us that we've been sold out if we've been sold out and I you know and if we have tell us so we can sell our properties and run away. And I've asked them I've asked them so many times can you give us a map of where we will be safe? I've been asking this for two years. Give us a map of where we will be safe from these and they can't do it.

Didn't Matt Lunati have a go on I'm sorry I was going to say didn't Matt Lunati bring a a report of some sort that you uh didn't what is it how would it affect your station?

Yeah well the reports are concerning because they're out of California and they're all what he did is he used the research paid for by these energy companies. Okay so he said they're obviously skewed but still in their reports out of California on these wind turbines they still showed all of the all of the things that were wrong. They said oh but there will be interference here and here and here and here and here so he said take that and he was doing all the math and the engineering he's a physicist too and he said multiply it and these twin turbines are bigger and they're worse. And so the here here's the thing folks this is 50 year old technology and they've run off all the reindeer in Norway there's all these problems that there are outlawing them in other countries. This is nothing more than a big money grab. It's the big money and subsidies and all the other big energy that were or were getting sold down the drain. I don't know if it's China open owning some of the bigger bigger bigger energy companies I don't know because they're the ones that make the parts but I will tell you that where they make these wind turbine and solar parts in China and sending them here, they're not using one bit of that technology because it's that old and it doesn't work and it's intermittent and it's filthy because you leave five tons, four to five tons of rusting rebar steel and crap in the ground rusting and leaching into our coconut aquifer. And I got to tell you I will just say one thing about these last minute signage if busloads or or the Native American friends of ours north if they don't think this is going to affect them with water, the water these take and all the stuff, if there were boatloads of our Native American friends in Navajo that would sign this, that could save us but yes they that could save us and all they need to do is call 928 242 3527 928242527 don't be afraid it's just putting it on the ballot and it's right I mean we need to be wiser than these serpents we cannot be put off of our mission because Jason Whiting floats the idea that nuclear may be coming and no you know what they should do they should give us the moratorium that we've been asking for.

They should revise the ordinance to protect Navajo County and then we'll start listening to him talk about nuclear but I think he's put he's covering for his what he's done himself because again he's the one who recruited these projects in but secondly you know it's a way to keep to to make us second guess the petition and our chance to vote on this and I think that's part of why that announcement came out this week is that he doesn't want people to think that you know the wind and solar is such a problem. Well if it's not such a problem give us the moratorium so we can revise that ordinance and make it stronger and more protective.

Yeah that's what we need to do is hundreds of calls to the boards of supervisors, uh Der uh Darrell Seymour, Jason Whiting all of them okay start making tons of phone calls and say give us a moratorium if you think we're gonna have a mini nuclear something's coming give us something to kind of chill everything out and hold, put a hold on this. I mean so many people are calling for this we've got Eli Crane and Sylvia Allen and all these people that are trying and again people the things that are in this agreement are the minimal they're the things that other counties are doing okay so why can't we just have the minimal protections and have an open book? I don't understand that. That is just the crazy part. They're we're only asking for a half a half mile setback. A half mile folks that's doing nothing but it's a half mile they said they were going to get us a mile and they didn't so wh why are we the sacrificial lambs?

To me that is the most insulting part of this whole thing and I said this to Brian Leighton the day he came to the the Art Alliance building and did that little community meeting that was just so insulting. Why are we the sacrificial lambs and why are we the ones that you guys are selling out I mean how do you how do you not know that your children are going to pay for this? Why do you how insulting to your own family, let alone your fellow citizens that you go to church with and live next door to and buy groceries with it it's just it doesn't make sense. I I I I love money is the root of all evil. I mean I guess that's all I can say because uh where's follow the money I guess you can say it like you said it's a um a money grab and but why are we the ones that are being sacrificed?

We have I mean we requested in our public records we did get one back that said there are no water studies done. They have not done they do not require any water studies for these projects. So that I mean to me it's like how irresponsible how physically irresponsible are these supervisors.

Yeah and here's the thing the water studies the coconut aquifer and the fires and all this stuff that alone right there should totally bring the Native American communities in. They don't want it burning all across their lands and toxic waste everywhere and ruining the water table. I mean there there are things that I don't understand why they're not raising their hand and saying are we do we need to give this a minute and why not give it several months of the city and I think it's because they intentionally kept it all quiet and they intentionally rushed it.

Oh yeah they did it they did it so that you know the Navajo the Apache and everybody else we all were in the dark none of this was done before in in the front none of this was done before us none of this was done with the discussion this was all done secretly rushed I mean the fact that we did get one public records request back that had Chris Pastor signing a non-disclosure agreement with Prim Energy sure that project's not moving forward but how many others did he sign? And is that why we were never told anything because he was our economic development director was working in secret with these companies to get these approvals through yeah just sad all the way around.
